The article examines the definition of the concept of “linguistic and regional studies”, the subject and place of linguistic and regional studies in the study of a foreign language by students of humanitarian specialties. The features of the process of formation of linguistic and cultural competence are considered and analyzed, the problems of language training of future specialists are investigated, the main ways of solving the above problem are proposed. The analysis of the main components of linguistic and cultural competence is presented, it is determined that the assimilation of background knowledge actualizes the problem of the formation of the linguistic and cultural competence of students of humanitarian specialties. ...
